Multiple GRAMMY-winning songstress Lalah Hathaway celebrates a 3-peat sweep taking home her third GRAMMY in a row in R&B, and makes history with her second annual win in Best Traditional R&B! Besides her win for “Little Ghetto Boy,” her hit single “Angel” also hits #1 at UAC radio this week!
Lalah Hathaway celebrated winning her third consecutive GRAMMY® in R&B, at this year’s 58th Annual GRAMMY® Awards, taking home Best Traditional R&B Performance for the single “Little Ghetto Boy” (off her hit album LALAH HATHAWAY LIVE). This third win is also Lalah’s fifth overall career nomination at the GRAMMY® Awards, and she makes history as the sole performer to achieve a two-time consecutive sweep since the Traditional R&B category began, following her 2015 win for Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Jesus Children” with Robert Glasper and Malcolm-Jamal Warner). Lalah won her first GRAMMY® Award the previous year in 2014, in the category of Best R&B Performance (“Something” with Snarky Puppy).
Lalah Hathaway delivers a poignant live rendition of her father Donny Hathaway’s classic song “Little Ghetto Boy,” which remains a resonant touchstone in society today, more than 40 years since Donny first recorded it for DONNY HATHAWAY LIVE. Her seventh album and first-ever live project in her 25-year recording career, Lalah released LALAH HATHAWAY LIVE in October 2015, on Hathaway Entertainment in association with Entertainment One Music (eOne Music). Recorded at the historic Troubadour in Los Angeles, the acclaimed album also features the hit single “Angel” (originally recorded by Anita Baker), which hits #2 this week at Urban AC radio. Lalah also released a new digital single and music video for “Ghetto Boy” (feat. Snoop Dogg) in January 2016.
Lalah Hathaway says of her GRAMMY® win this year: “So proud to be making history and walking with my daddy – into the future.”
Phil Thornton, eOne Music’s Vice President and General Manager of Urban Inspirational says, “We are proud to congratulate Lalah Hathaway on the continued success of her live album, and this recognition from The Recording Academy with her third GRAMMY®. Lalah remains a musical trailblazer bringing her exciting vision to whatever genre she touches, whether it’s R&B to hip-hop, Gospel and more.”
