tyler-perry2TLC, initially known as The Learning Channel, now currently known as the network that brought us the guilty pleasure such as Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, and “19 Kids and Counting” is bringing Atlanta-based filmmaker Tyler Perry into the fold. (All of their unreal reality programming isn’t a ratings blockbuster anymore)

According to published reports, TLC has struck a deal with Perry to develop its first scripted series. Perry will write, direct and executive produce “Too Close to Home,” which centers around a young woman who returns home to a trailer park after a sex scandal ruins her political career. (sounds like reality TV to me!). The eight-part drama has yet to be cast and the shooting location will more than likely be Atlanta, home of Tyler Perry Studios.

TLC logoPerry also has successful relationship with TLC’s sister channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), which currently airs his series “If Loving You is Wrong,” “The Haves and the Have Nots,” “Tyler Perry’s For Better or For Worse” and “Love Thy Neighbor.” “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” also aired on OWN from 2006 to 2012.

Perry’s series have helped OWN improve its ratings by 30 percent in the past two years and TLC, whose ratings have fallen in recent years clearly seeks a similar ratings boost. Set the DVR!
