Fans of WGN’s Underground are waiting patiently for the next season, but even before that starts, the Chicago-based network is already cooking up something new. John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co. has teamed up with the network again to develop a series titled Black Wall Street.

Legend, along with his partners, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius, and Tika Sumpter as executive producer, will tell the historic story of Oklahoma’s “Black Wall Street.”

“We’re so excited to continue to grow our relationship with WGN America,” Jackson told Deadline. “Our experience working with them on Underground has been fantastic. Additionally, we’re looking forward to working with our friend Tika Sumpter to help tell this incredible story that many people know nothing about.”

The series will be set in Tulsa, Okla., at the beginning of the 20th century and will take a look at the black middle class that built the community. If the series is picked up, the aim is for a 2018 air date.
