On Sunday January 15th, PALM was in the house for Jae Murphy and friend’s birthday bash at the Globe Theatre in Downtown L.A. The show featured performances from chart topping hit makers Madeintyo and Rob $tone, along with Compton rapper AD.
The packed theater housed hundreds of guests eager to see a great show. The opening DJ set from Dem Ham Boyz, along with an opening set from L.A. rapper and No Jumper podcast co-host Lil House Phone really set the tone for the evening.
Rob $tone delivered a short but powerful set capitalizing on his smash hit “Chill Bill.” He was accompanied by his 1207 crew member Malik Burgers as well. “Every morning when I wake up I think about it! I can’t believe it.” said Rob when asked about the wild success he’s had in just one year’s span. He also told us to look out for more Denzel Curry collaborations and possibly a track with Wiz Khalifa.
Atlanta rapper MadeinTYO, came through with his hit “Uber Everywhere” and which electrified the room. But there was lots of talent in there last night who didn’t perform on stage. It was dope chatting with Adam 22, host of the No Jumper podcast and owner of the OnSomeShit BMX store downtown, along with Lakeith Stanfield of FX’s hit show Atlanta and the upcoming film Get Out in theaters February 24th.
Of the many sponsors which made this event possible one of them was our good friends HBCU Buzz. As an Hampton University graduate, it was just a collision of worlds to see the L.A. underground scene and my Cali HBCU Family under one roof. When the DJ played “Sexy Lady” (a Go Go Classic) by UCB and shouted over the mic “If you went to an HBCU make some noise!” my heart practically rejoiced! Dope music, beautiful young ladies, and positive vibes set the bar high for 2017, and I look forward to more like it.
Special thanks to Mike Sherman.
