Blake Griffin & Kenya Burris to Remake White Men Can’t Jump

Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris have teamed to remake the 1992 basketball buddy comedy White Men Can’t Jump.

It’s unclear if Griffin – who has displayed his comedic chops on various late-night shows and commercials as well as a Broad City guest spot – is planning on starring in the film.

Barris will produce and pen the script for the new version of the beloved film, with Mortal Media, a company founded by Griffin and Carolina Panthers lineman Ryan Kalil, also on board to produce, Variety reports.

The original film starred Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes as a pair of streetball players in Los Angeles who team up to hustle opponents in Los Angeles. The film’s title comes from Harrelson’s character’s inability to dunk the ball. (Griffin, however, is an expert on dunks, having won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest during his rookie season in 2011.)

The White Men Can’t Jump project is still in the development stage, so it’s unknown whether the remake will deviate from the original film’s plot or stick close to the story featured in Ron Shelton’s 1992 screenplay.

Griffin, who participated in a live reading of Space Jam in March 2014, was rumored to be involved in a reboot of that Michael Jordan classic, but LeBron James will instead guide that project. Griffin starred in a Space Jam-inspired commercial in 2016.
