Kevin Abstract is an underrated talent with much potential. His style blends hip-hop, pop R&B, and alternative into one. His introspective lyrics reflect on topics like depression, relationships, drug abuse, and just being just plain socially awkward. Kevin is completely open with sexuality in his music, while maintaining a low key persona off record.

With influences including Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell Williams, Frank Ocean, Childish Gambino, and Nirvana, Kevin’s sound is clearly aligned the right way and destined for greatness.

Born Ian Simpson in Corpus Christi, Texas, the 20 year old holds two albums under his belt, MTV1987 (2014) and American Boyfriend: A Suburban Love Story (2016). The sophomore album included tracks written and produced by Michael Uzowuru, who had previously worked with many members of Odd Future and Vince Staples along with Om ‘Mas Keith.

I’m glad that artists like Kevin Abstract are on the rise. This is an upward trend in modern music and it’s a wonderful melting pot of sounds. I’m hoping that Kevin blesses us with a full length project in 2017.
