WUFO AM

WUFO radio was established in 1961 by Gordon McLendon to broadcast on 1080 AM frequency in 1961. McLendon chose “WUFO” as the call letters and named the station “WU-FO in Buffalo,” providing the desired rhyming and identification with its home base “Buffalo”.

WUFO logoWUFO 1080 AM began broadcasting on November 2, 1962 with famed Cleveland Disc Jockey Eddie O’Jay as its first On-Air personality. Eddie O’Jay is also credited as being the person who named the legendary R&B group “The O’Jay’s”. Throughout the years WUFO has been through a few format changes such as R&B, urban Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Talk, News, Sports, and Oldies.

WUFO has been the starting point for many well-known On Air personalities such as NYC disc jockey Frankie CrockerGary Byrd, Jerry Bledsoe, Thelka McCall, Dwayne Dancer Donovan, Don Allen, Don Mullins, Sunny Jim Kelsey, Al Brisbane, Jimmy Lyons, H.F. Stone, Chucky T, Al Parker, Gary Lanier, Kelly Carson and many more “Greats”. In 1973 the Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation purchased Dynamic Broadcasting, making history as being the only African American owned station in Western New York.

In 2013, WUFO was purchased by Vision Multi Media Group majority owner (President/Operating manager Sheila L. Brown) and True Bethel Community Development Corporation minority owner (COO Darius Pridgen), making it the first ever radio station in Western New York to be owned and operated by a female African American.

Under the supervision and leadership of Vision Multi Media Group headed by Sheila Brown WUFO radio is poised to bring what’s been missing on the Western New York airwaves and community. The station, at 1080 on the AM dial, also simulcasts at 100.7 FM, operating 24 hours a day with additional music programming. Vowing to give a blend of R&B Hits and the Throwbacks that everyone loves. WUFO prides itself as being a station that is for the community it serves as well as inspiring through engaging talk shows and spiritual upliftment.

The all new WUFO radio now serves the under-served age 25-54 Western New York and Southern Ontario (Toronto included) listen audience and features “The Tom Joyner Morning Show” and “The Michael Baisden Show” as highly rated programming.
