Radio Icon Jon Badeaux Passed Away Kevin Fleming March 24, 2018 Radio Buzz 1 Jon Badeaux has passed away, aged 70, in Palm Springs, CA. His career began at KFXM/San Bernardino and took a few hops across the state (KLOK/San Jose and KWIZ/Santa Ana) before landing at KHJ in Los Angeles in the late 60s when it was run by Bill Drake and master Program Director Ron Jacobs. At “Boss Radio” KHJ, Jon produced such legendary DJ’s as The Real Don Steele, Charlie Tuna, Humble Harv, and more. After ten years of Boss Radio 93/KHJ, he joined another LA station, KDAY, where he initially was production manager. Additionally, he spent five years as music director along with his production responsibilities. There he gained a reputation as having “great ears.” In 1983, Jon produced an album consisting of the Motown library of hits with narration by Smokey Robinson and Lionel Richie. The album was produced in conjunction with Motown’s 25th anniversary and was nominated for a Grammy as Best Historical Recording. From the late 80s until his death, Jon worked in traffic and operations at several radio stations, including Clear Channel Broadcasting, Sandusky in Seattle, and stations in Hawaii and Indiana. Jon is survived by his sister, Cherie Oden; niece, Candice Oden; and former wife, Marylou Badeaux. He will be missed by all who knew him. He and I shared lots of air checks and radio stories. He just seemed like a really nice guy. I’m sad for those who knew and worked with him. RIP, Jon.
