Andre Harrell Rest in Paradise

Andre Harrell, a veteran music executive best known as the founder of Uptown Records who discovered Sean Combs and later went on to head Motown Records, has died. He was 59. The cause of death is as yet unclear. Read more in MSN.

Editor’s Note: I first met Andre in 1982 when Russell Simmons introduced me to Run-DMC and Dr. Jekyll  & Mr. Hyde. Andre “Dr. Jekyll” Harrell and I became friends. He went from artist to executive and ascended on a stellar career developing talent like Teddy Riley, Jodeci, Heavy D, Al B Sure and of course Mary J. Blige. Andre will be missed.
