Columbia Records has named Shawn ‘Tubby’ Holiday as SVP/Urban A&R. Previously SVP/A&R for RCA Records, Holiday will continue to discover, break and develop new talent as well as integrate his adventurous approach to urban music.
Holiday has worked with artists such as Akon, T.I., Lady GaGa, Jennifer Hudson, and Robin Thicke , among others. From placing Colby O’Donis on Lady GaGa’s first hit single “Just Dance” to most recently adding T.I. to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Holiday has excelled at pairing the right artists together to break hit records.
“Tubby has an impeccable reputation in Urban music and, with his profound knowledge and deep relationships in the genre, I have no doubt that he will be an impact hire for us,” President Ashley Newton said. “We are thrilled that he is joining the Columbia family.”
“I’m extremely appreciative of Rob Stringer and Ashley Newton for this opportunity,” Holiday said. “I hope to broaden Columbia’s presence in the Urban and Pop world to maintain their artistic legacy. I also look forward to working with the entire Columbia staff.”
