Monica Pearson

Cox Media Group’s WALR KISS 104.1 FM is launching The Monica Pearson Show, featuring Atlanta broadcast legend and award-winning journalist Monica Pearson, beginning Jan. 12, 2014. Pearson’s new show will air Sunday’s noon to 2 p.m. and will feature engaging talk, smooth R&B music from the 70s to today, and fascinating information from one of Atlanta’s most-trusted media talents.

“I am extremely excited about working for KISS 104.1, Atlanta’s best R&B,” said Pearson. “It allows me to return to my first love, radio, working with great music, great people and to remain in the Cox Media Group family. This is an opportunity for people to see me in a different light. After all, I consider myself the Madonna of broadcasting– always changing.”

Pearson is the first woman and first minority to anchor the daily evening news in Atlanta, where she worked for 37 years at leading station WSB-TV. She has won over 33 Southern Regional and local Emmy Awards for reporting, anchoring and her “Closeups” celebrity interview show. Since retiring in 2012, Pearson writes a column, Monica Matters, for the quarterly magazine, Southern Seasons. She also is attending the University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication to earn a Master’s Degree. She’s the daughter of a 90-year mom, wife to an assistant police chief, mother to a budding entrepreneur, a singer, volunteer, owner of two German Shepherd dogs and can be found on twitter @Monicawsb.
