On Valentines Day, Indie Buzz All-Star Curren$y dropped a brand new 15-song mixtape called The Drive-In Theater. I’ve listened to a handful of projects from Spitta and I must say that this one wasn’t really all that. Most of it’s produced by Chicago based artist Thelonious Martin, who’s worked with Vic Mensa, Hodgy Beats and more. There’s a couple dope songs off of The Drive-In Theater like “El-Camino (Feat. Mary Gold). It was cool to see the rather unlikely combination of Curren$y and Action Bronson on “Godfather Four.” The song “Grew-Up (Feat. Young Roddy and Freddie Gibbs)” wasn’t bad either. $ Migraine (Feat. Le$) had a cool feel to it as well. There’s a pattern I’m seeing here however: all the songs I found most enjoyable were features. This is very telling on someones project, especially an artist as talented as Curren$y. Compared to past projects The Drive-In Theater comes up a bit short, but is still decent. 3/5 flies.
