sam nelsoniHeartMedia Savannah,  has filled its Director of Urban Programming vacancy with the hire of Sam Nelson, who will oversee Urban WQBT (94.1 The Beat), Urban AC WLVH (Love 101.1) and Gospel WSOK-AM. Nelson (left) most recently programmed Cumulus Urban AC WUHT (Hot 107.7)/Birmingham. “Sam Nelson is like getting the ultimate free agent — he’s going to be a great leader and asset to our stations,” said Travis Dylan, SVP Programming for iHeartMedia Savannah. “We are excited to welcome him to the Savannah team with great enthusiasm and instant momentum.”

The move marks a triumphant return to the Savannah market for Nelson, who worked there for Cumulus from 1998-2007, rising to Director of Operations for his final three years there. His previous programming stops include WJMO/Cleveland, WVKO/Columbus, OH and WPDQ/Jacksonville, plus he was Director of Programming for Jacksonville-based Straightway/Bernard Radio from 2008-2011. “Savannah is wonderful place and I’m really thrilled to be back,” Nelson said. “I’m really proud of my accomplishments in the industry, but most important to me, I value the relationships I have made in the business. I take great pride in knowing I’ve mentored some of the best broadcasters in the business and I know we will best serve our listeners and advertisers. That’s the No. 1 mission!” Nelson succeeds “The Bad Boy TuTu” Durant, who left in January to program iHeartMedia Urban WXBT (100.1 The Beat)/Columbia, SC.
