IdolFOX will pull the plug on “AMERICAN Idol,” ending its 15 season run in 2016.  The network announced the end of the once-dominant singing competition this morning before its upfront presentation.

The final season of “Idol” will start in JANUARY 2016, with JENNIFER LOPEZ, HARRY CONNICK JR. and KEITH URBAN returning as judges and RYAN SEACREST hosting as he has since the show’s inception.

“Idol” premiered in 2002 and has produced artists who have found success in multiple genres. Both KELLY CLARKSON and CARRIE UNDERWOOD have landed atop the heap with GOLD and PLATINUM album sales and career longevity to date.

The reality competition is reported being cancelled due to continual declines in viewership numbers. There has been no date set for the 2016 series finale.
