nicki-minaj-pink-wig_0In September of 2014 Nicki Minaj wanted to return to her alma mater, Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, pay it forward, inspire the students and dish about her rise in the music business. Depending on who you ask, the principal did not welcome her back with open arms or the school would not accommodate her schedule. Minaj has the last laugh today, a year later, with the announcement is executive producing a new series for the ABC Family Network.

The untitled single-camera half-hour scripted comedy, which Minaj will also appear in, will focus on her life growing up in Queens with her family after immigrating from Trinidad as well as her personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.The pilot, written by Kate Angelo of the Bernie Mac show will be executive produced by Minaj and Gee Roberson.

Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

The show will begin shooting this winter. In the interim, Minaj has taken to social media to announcing the search for an actress to portray her in her younger, fully clothed years.
