Jay-Z is Still Pimpin’ Big

Jay Z has won the Big Pimpin’ lawsuit. Back in 2007 the nephew of Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi filed a lawsuit against Jay Z and Timbaland claiming they had no right to sample his uncle’s music for their hit single ‘Big Pimpin’ on the grounds of Egyptian moral rights. But a judge did not agree stating Hamdi’s heirs lost the standing to pursue a lawsuit after the rights to the song, “Khosara Khosara” was signed over to Middle Eastern record label Sout El Phan over a decade ago. Jay Z and Timbaland licensed the sample through Sout El Phan.
