Ty Dolla $ign has always been the guy who friends have told me to listen to, but for whatever reason I could never sit down and hear a whole project from. This month, the Los Angeles based singer dropped his debut album Free TC on Taylor Gang Records. I have to say I found the album to be very enjoyable from start to finish. Free TC is grounded in not as much Ty’s solo performance, as it is with collaborations. We all know about the trap banger and first single “Blase” featuring Future and Rae Sremmurd, but this is 100% a star studded affair with appearances from Kendrick Lamar, E-40, Babyface, Trey Songz, Kanye West, Diddy, Jagged Edge, R. Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, Fetty Wap, YG, and more.

In all actuality Ty Dolla $ign is not a bad vocalist at all. I like the acoustics used on “Solid” featuring Babyface. The best song off the album is “Horses in the Stable,” which happens to be just one of two solo performances on this record. Additionally although it’s unmastered, “Miracle/Whenever” featuring TC and D-Loc is dope too. This track is particularly emotional on the subject of TC and D-Loc being Ty’s incarcerated friends. After listening to “Only Right” featuring YG, Joe Moses, and TeeCee4800, it’s safe to say any time YG and Ty collab it’s a smash! The closing track on here, “Finale” featuring SA-RA and PJ is beautiful, and features production from none other than Thundercat himself. The only real disappointments on the record were the underwhelming performances from Kanye West and Diddy on “Guard Down” and the radio friendly pop tune “Bring it Out of Me.”

Overall, Free TC is a very well put together album and I recommend all of our readers, no matter what genre your into to go and check it out on Apple Music or Spotify. Free TC is 4.5/5 Palms.
