MTV logoThis Thursday(April 21) MTV, once known for music focused content, (remember those days?) made an announcement that appears to be a breath of fresh air given that MTV has morphed into RTV (Reality TV). MTV unveiled their new slate of programs that return to their roots and put the “M” back in MTV.

In recent years, the music network has slowly moonwalked away from music and music news to focus more on reality shows such as Catfish, Teen Mom and Jersey Shore.

The following programs are reportedly additions to MTV’s programming menu:

Mariah CareyWonderland, which will feature live performances from three different artists and is actually the first weekly live-music performance they’ve had in two decades!

MTV has also added yet to titled music competition series that will be produced by Mark Burnett of Survivor. (We really need another base model church basement talent show…Girl, bye!)

Another possible program is Studio 24 which will pair up artists who are tasked with creating a song in a 24-hour period of time. (Prince would do a complete album in 24 hours!)

If documentaries are more your style, Year One, a docuseries that takes a look at various artist’s’ breakthrough years may be a permanent fixture on your DVR.

LL cool JThe most redeeming of all programs is the return of 90’s favorite, MTV Unplugged where artists play acoustic versions of their hit songs. Can we all flashback to LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige or (pre-meltdown) Mariah Carey, or even Jodeci shutting it down??

PrinceLastly, MTV also announced that they are going to air a podcast that will take a look at Prince’s impact over the years. The network’s Snapchat Discover channel will also be dedicated to nothing but Prince!

Welcome back to the game MTV…Now please let the world know when these programs will debut so every publicist, manager, label exec and so on can pitch their artists and clients. Stay tuned.
