If you don’t already know by now, Atmosphere is one of my all time favorite groups. So when our friends over at Rhymesayers Entertainment announced that they’d be coming out with a new album, I was eager to give it a listen. Fishing Blues has an interesting yet familiar tone to it that is familiar to us die-hard fans while simultaneously welcomes newcomers.

Fishing Blues starts off a bit dark and moody but picks up towards the end. I like the funky grooves on the song “Perfect” which sort of reminds me of “Shoulda Known” from 2008’s When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. The single off this no record “No Biggie” comes in pretty strong and has a head-knodic beat. “Chasing New York” featuring Aesop Rock has a classic Atmosphere feel to it and pays ode to classic era hip-hop. By far my favorite track off Fishing Blues is the title track featuring The Grouch.  I also love the following track Won’t Look Back featuring Kim Manning. From here the songs just keep trending upwards on “Anybody that I’ve Known” and the sentimental piece “Still Be Here.”

With a healthy amount of guest appearances including spots from Rhymesayers past and present members deM atlaS and DOOM, along with an array of great songs, Fishing Blues reels in at 5/5 PALMs!
