Hot 105 Miami Makes Moves

Cox Media Group Urban AC WHQT (Hot 105)/Miami has locked down its new afternoon show — market vets Big Lip and Shelby Rushin will join forces to drive Miami home, starting Monday, July 30.

For Big Lip, the move marks a return to Cox Media Group — he used to co-host the morning show on Urban clustermate WEDR (99 Jamz) until 2008, followed by a run as morning co-host on crosstown WPOW (Power 96). He most recently did mornings on Sun Broadcasting Rhythmic WFFY (Fly 98.5)/Ft. Myers. Shelby Rushin is also a CMG veteran, having formerly done middays on WEDR.

Big Lip and Shelby replace Hot 105’s previous afternoon duo of Rick Party and comic Benji Brown — Party exited in May after five years when he and CMG failed to come to terms on a new contract. Pictured, (l-r): Big Lip, Shelby and Hot 105 Director of Branding & Programming Phil Michaels-Trueba.
