WPWX-Chicago’s Power 92 kicked off their Power 2 Change community initiative at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory School with a rally and a special guest Atlantic Records recording artist T.I and star of VH1’s hit television show T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle. Power 92’s The Hot Boys, Tone Kapone and Shagg Nice were the host for the rally. Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory School is led by principle D’Andre Weaver and has been recognized as a Gold Medal School, ranked #13 in the State of Illinois according to US News and World Report.  A student body that is 99% minority, over 60% of the student population is enrolled in Advanced Placement Courses. Located in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood students in its Arts and Culture departments are currently collecting 506 pair of shoes to create a sculpture that represents the 506 lives lost to violence in Chicago last year. On June 7, 2013 all students and faculty at Brooks College Prep are participating in a day of service where they will go out into the local community and conduct service projects in honor of the late author Gwendolyn Brooks. The school is also the most recent recipient of a grant dedicated to growing, cultivating and giving away food to Chicago’s Roseland community as well as food pantries across the City of Chicago.  Over 50 of its students and teachers have teamed up with Team World vision as the only high school in the country who will run the Chicago Marathon to raise money for clean drinking water for the people in Africa.
