Jimmy Jam talks “Control” & more during The Session Live! Kevin Fleming April 13, 2022 Entertainment, Music News The Session is a live music Q&A discussion, hosted by KLOS-LA DJ Christian James Hand. He breaks down a featured song, track-by-track. It’s a total music nerd fest and he claims, “you’ll never hear these songs the same again.” Over the past couple of years Christain Hand has curated, and grown, a ground-breaking radio segment he calls “The Session” where he takes you through a track-by-track breakdown of some of the greatest songs ever recorded and reveals the magic behind the music. This week, The Session welcomed producer, songwriter and Flyte Tyme Productions/Perspective Records co-founder, James “Jimmy Jam” Harris, III to The Regent in downtown Los Angeles. Since forming Flyte Tyme Productions in 1982, James Harris, III and Terry Lewis have garnered more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond albums with artists including Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Beyonce, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Usher, Yolanda Adams, Herb Alpert, Luther Vandross, Rod Stewart, New Edition, Human League, Earth, Wind & Fire, Mariah Carey, Robert Palmer, Gwen Stefani, Kanye West and Janet Jackson. Jam and Lewis also have more number ones than any other songwriting and production team in history, with over 100 Billboard Top 10 songs, including 26 number one R&B hits and 16 number one Hot 100 hits. The Session was dedicated to Jimmy’s introduction to music, meeting Prince, forming a partnership with Terry, being a club DJ, the early days for a band in Minneapolis, and the creation of what eventually became the most successfull songwriting and production team in history. Christian broke the song down track by track, including identifying the drum machines, keyboards and live performances used in constructing the composition. Interesting yet nerdy! In all, The Session Live with Jimmy Jam was a fun, informantive and entertaining evening enjoyed by an enthusiastic full house that included Jerome Benton, Bobby Ross Avila, Ken Wilson, Chante Moore, Stephen Hill, Rick Nuhn, Guy Black and many others.
