The Urban Buzz sends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of Memphis radio icon, Bobby O’Jay. Bobby was on the air at WDIA when he passed. He was 68.

He was born in Batesville, Mississippi in 1953 and got his first start in the radio business in Montgomery, Alabama before joining WDIA in Memphis in 1983.

In 2018, WDIA said in a press release:

“The stations program director and on-air personality Bobby O’Jay is the man behind all the success as being the city’s top-rated and morning drive program.”

O’Jay was also inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame in 2021 and nominated for the National Radio Hall of Fame. He was also honored by iHeartMedia Memphis in 2018.

Editors Note: Bobby was a great PD and air personality and a wonderful brother and friend. He will truly be missed.
