Hegwood

Core Communications CEO/ WZTA (STREETZ 94.5) Atlanta owner Steve Hegwood has quietly added his ownership portfolio with a new Atlanta FM signal at 99.3, he simply calls “Old School.” It’s a simulcast of an AM station he has owned since last year at 1010 WTZA-AM. The station plays a mix of R&B from the mid-1970s through the mid-1990s. It’s actually refreshing to hear the “feel good” jams from back in the day from Kool & The Gang, Chaka, The O’Jays, Luther and more. Since Hegwood added the FM signal, you can also hear a bit of true school hip-hop from the likes of LL Cool J, Salt-n-Pepa and Heavy D.

The down side of his limited signal is that the FM component doesn’t cover all of Atlanta and although the AM side does cover most of Atlanta during the day, the sound is at best, substandard. Knowing Hegwood, this issue won’t be an issue for long. Grab your Gazelle’s and stay tuned.
