In 2014, Reid declared, “Folks better watch out. We’re cooking.” And — together with Rhone, who was appointed president last March — he made good on that declaration. The pair piloted newcomer Meghan Trainor to a multiplatinum breakthrough and Grammy nods with two top-selling singles (“All About That Bass,” with 4.7 million sold, and “Lips Are Movin’,” at 1.6 million, according to Nielsen Music). Additional breakthroughs — Bobby Shmurda, A Great Big World, Kongos — coupled with strong sales by established acts (Michael Jackson and Sara Bareilles) were instrumental in “turning Epic around,” says Reid.
