Cumulus held a big party at Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem this week to formally announce the flip of WFAS-Westchester, NY from AC to Urban AC as Radio 103.9, effective July 7. The new station will be programmed by Cumulus Birmingham OM Ken Johnson. Radio 103.9 will showcase the Reach Media-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show and DL Hughley in afternoons, Sharon “La Loca” Montero of Cox Media Rhythmic WPYO (Power 95.3)/Orlando will handle middays, while the 7-midnight show, Hanging Downtown will be hosted by Marc Clarke, the host of the popular Hang Suite on WHUR-Washington.

“Women ages 35-44 who enjoy Urban format music and stars from the last few decades through today are underserved in the Big Apple and we’re changing that now with an urban radio renaissance,” said Kim Bryant, VP/Market Manager for Cumulus New York. Johnson added, “New York is the greatest city in the world and the radio programmers and personalities that came before me are a part my philosophy on radio today. The only thing greater than my love for New York radio is my respect for its listeners.”

Raphael George has been hired as APD of Cumulus Media’s soon-to-launch New York-targeted Urban AC station Radio 103.9/New York. George was most recently Director of Sales for Nielsen BDSradio.
