Could Hot 97 Become 99 Problems for Funk Master Flex?

Got Beef? Funk Master Flex took to the airwaves of Hot 97 to take jabs at Jay Z calling him out saying, “You are a corporate commercial rapper that drops a little catch phrase every three months.” After once again attempting to discredit Jay’s website Life+Times, Flex went at his clout on the FM dial saying, “This radio station doesn’t need you or care.”

Flex went on to warn Hov against retaliation. “If you ever plan on taking a shot like that at me or any sublime, I will be on this radio every day going at you,” he snapped. (Flex, do you have the “juice” to make that statement and back it up? The new PD hasn’t even unpacked yet!!)

It’s 2015 and these titans of music and entertainment are beefin’, really? Here’s where things get interesting…

Word is all up and through the “curb USA” and it’s not just about the shots fired by way of Hot 97 New York’s Funk Master Flex on Jay-Z but the buzz regarding Blue Ivy Carter’s daddy negotiating the purchase of Emmis Communications’ WQHT. While Hov is heavily “coint up” he’s allegedly assembled a group of investors that includes NY Knick Carmelo Anthony. The remainder of the group is said to consist of heavy hitters with long bank. Negotiations are said to be in the early stages with a bevy of hired lawyers and investment bankers on both sides that are serious in getting a deal done sooner than later. (Will Emmis use the cash to purchase iHeart Media properties?)
If this is “the truth like Ruth,” it will undoubtedly be a major game changer, not just for New York City but the radio game as a whole. This may not be a street Funk Master Flex wants to cross or he may find himself on the wrong side of prospective new ownership.
