Delmar Powell

Republic Records has upped Delmar Powell to Director of Urban A&R. The announcement came jointly from Republic EVP of A&R/Head of Urban Wendy Goldstein and EVP Rob Stevenson. Based in Los Angeles, Powell will focus on signing, developing, building and breaking acts within the Urban space, ranging from hip-hop and R&B to pop. He will also collaborate with the A&R team on upcoming releases from Adrian Marcel, Enrique Iglesias and many others. Powell previously held the position of Manager, Physical Sales, but began working in A&R after proving instrumental to the creation of Marcel’s breakout hit “2AM” featuring Sage The Gemini.

REPUBLIC RECORDS LOGOGoldstein commented, “Delmar has a true passion for music and an incredible ear. He’s going to be a crucial asset for this department given his work ethic. It’s an exciting new chapter for us!” Stevenson added, “Delmar is so dedicated to the A&R process that he literally doesn’t take no for an answer. His vision and enthusiasm are infectious, and he’s going to do some incredible things for the label.” Powell joined Republic Records in 2010 as a Coordinator in Sales. Prior to that, he worked at Atlantic and TVT Records following an internship at Jive Records. Commenting on his new gig, Powell said, “I really want to deliver hit records that make history and change lives all over the world. I don’t want to be just a regular A&R guy. I try to dig deeper. It all starts with the music. I want it to be innovative, and I want to help set the company apart and keep us at the forefront. I also look up to Wendy and Rob so much. They’re both legends who have signed some amazing artists. It inspires me to want to make great songs and pick acts who will break through and still be relevant ten years from now.”
